During the last mission in Eritrea that has taken place last May, pediatric medicines with the value of over 80,000 euros were handed over to the director of the Orotta Pediatric Hospital in Asmara.
The initiative was born following the request made by Professor Tzigheredda, Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department, given the growing need of medicine in which the hospital was. The structure in fact, it is the only pediatric hospital of national reference and every year it hosts about 30,000 children. AnlaDi has already carried out with this structure important interventions of cooperation in pediatric health area, the last one, which is still ongoing, is the renovation of the emergency room.
Part of the purchase of this medicines was possible thanks to the funding of 35,000 euros received from the AICS of Khartoum (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) while another part of the medicines was donated by “Pharmacy Majesty” of Giannini which is located in Arezzo and from the company “Pharma Trade” of Lugano.
The contents of the container, which left Florence at the end of March, was officially handed over on May 8, 2019. On that day were present the first secretary of the Italian embassy in Eritrea, Dr. Michele Camerota, the director of the Orotta Pediatric Hospital in Asmara, Dr. Habteab Mehari, and our two collaborators Paola Cerea and Alem Yemane.
We would like to thank the AICS of Khartoum and all the people that have contributed to this project for the availability and sensitivity shown, without which we will not have been able to carry out this initiative.
